A laser is clearly visible at the rear of the vehicle. It rotates on a horizontal axis, thus scanning a vertical plane. When the vehicle goes forward, the laser beam hits the buildings it passes. A series of “bands” made up of points is constituted, and then placed in a 3D environment based on the exact positioning of the vehicle according to the fusion of data from the GPS, the inertial measurement unit, and the odometers. RTMaps allows the sensors data fusion in real time.
