Darpa Urban Challenge: an autonomous vehicles race
The Darpa Urban Challenge is the Darpa Grand Challenge successor. Instead of the Mojaves desert, the Darpa Urban Challenge happens in an urban decor. This automated vehicle competition is still organised by the DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency). The vehicles must travel from one point location to another with no human intervention. The vehicles must achieving special operations such as passing other vehicles or avoiding a pedestrian.
Dotmobil and RTMaps (sensors, algorithms and actuators)
Intempora S.A. (with its RTMaps Software) is a contributor to the Dotmobil project, that presents its automated vehicle in the DARPA Urban challenge.
Data from the various sensors (radar, laser, GPS, video...) are centralized, processed and fused in RTMaps. The process results allow to command the actuators (speed and direction).
This video, filmed in the Inria (The French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control) by Intempora and Dotmobil, présents the vehicle before its leaving for the United States, june 2007.
